NEWS: Letter from Chair of Governors - Building Plans

See what's coming up in the Events section

We are writing to inform you of an exciting new venture the school is hoping to undertake in the near future.

The governors of the school continue to be forward looking and innovative, aiming to provide an environment where all of our pupils have a wide range of opportunities to participate in new challenges and experiences.

The school’s current activity space (the hall) is considerably under sized for 420 pupils and this limits the amount of PE we are able to undertake and also restricts the type of activities we can offer. Governors have recognised the need to provide additional activity space and commissioned a feasibility study which was undertaken by the school’s architect. The only place of adequate size on the school site to provide additional space is where the SOS out of school club is currently located. The plan would be to demolish and replace the outdated classroom with a purpose built activity studio which would be used for PE lessons, multi-functional sports gatherings and performances and the studio would also be available for community use. The governors are currently in discussion with the committee of SOS and Calderdale Council’s legal department with a view to SOS relocating to the main school building.

The project also includes the refurbishment of the swimming pool and the creation of toilet facilities and enhanced changing rooms within the pool hall. It will also contain an out of hours entrance for community use.

As part of the project, there will be a requirement to relocate a number of car parking spaces and these will be positioned along the school drive. It is hoped to gather sufficient funding to commence the project within the next two years, subject to planning permission being obtained.

The school’s architect has now submitted a planning application to Calderdale Council and is hoping this will be validated in the coming weeks. With this in mind, the governors would welcome expressions of interest from parents and the wider community recommending their support for the project . Simply enter the school name or application number 18/00589/FUL then click on the tab ‘Make a Comment via the Council’s planning portal which can be accessed via the attached link and also via the school’s website:

The Governors will, of course, keep parents and carers updated in the future as this exciting project unfolds.

Yours sincerely
